The house at the bend in the road

Run-down of our current house situation:

  • We still own our house in Utah & are renting it to a great family.  Would have loved to sell it but it lost 100K in equity during the 2 1/2 yrs we owned it so we simply couldn't.
  • Are renting a house here while looking for the impossible:  a home that will meet our family's needs (and some wants if possible although that wasn't absolutely required) that is also within our budget.
  • Looked at countless homes, put an offer on one that was rejected.
  • Since nothing was panning out, we decided to renew our lease for another year (lease is up June 30th)
  • On Mother's Day, Jeff noticed a brand-new-on-the-market foreclosure & said to me, "I found our house."
  • I rolled my eyes.  How many times had I heard that?
  • Looked at the house the next day.  It was great & a fabulous deal to boot - we could never afford it at full price.  We put an offer on it the next day.  Five offers came in within a week.
  • Bank had everyone submit their "best" offer by 10 AM Wednesday morning.  We were sure we had lost it as we were already towards the top end of our budget, couldn't go much higher, & had no idea how high the bids would go.
  • Jeff was in Florida at the time, woke up on Wednesday morning, got up from saying his prayers & a number came to his head.  He called the realtor with that new number and we put it in the Lord's hands.
  • At 4 pm that day we got an email from our landlords telling us they were moving back into this house & we couldn't renew the lease.
  • I panicked and prayed and worried for 4 full hours.  Jeff was still on the plane coming home from Florida.
  • At 8 pm that night our realtor called & told us that we won the bid - by the very skin of our teeth.  Literally.
  • At 8:05 pm that night I cried & said a sincere prayer of gratitude, expressing no small amount of wonder and amazement at the Lord's hand in the details.
And so it is that, on June 24th,  we will be purchasing a lovely home in a small culdesac at a bend in a road (in Castlewood for those of you who know the area).

We are truly blessed.

After all we've seen in our own life, I shouldn't be fazed anymore by stories of tender mercies...but somehow they still amaze me every single time. I'm so glad that you got your house....and even happier that you can see the hand of the Lord in your life. So excited for you!!!

This is a beautiful house! Congratulations! Is it in the same area? Same ward, same schools?

I am sooooo happy you guys were so blessed. I personally think you deserve it! I am buoyed up by your story so thanks for that so much. I wonder if the owners saw you guys and wanted a great family in their home? Well, that's great news. Hey how do you do your picture with your comments. I want to learn how to do that?
