Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny LawsonMy rating: 1 of 5 stars
This book is a Goodreads Reader's Choice Winner, a memoir (which I enjoy) and, according to reviews, laugh-out-loud funny (I needed a good dose of laughter). So I bought it to read during a recent vacation.
I have read many books that contain mild and even moderate profanity, but the frequency of the F-bomb in this one was simply too much for me. (I should have read the reviews a little more carefully before purchasing it.) In fact, I did something I rarely ever do: I didn't finish the book.
Subtle, witty humor is what I most appreciate -- and what I found lacking in this book (at least the beginning chapters). To me, the humor seemed forced, in-your-face, and not well-edited.
I don't doubt that there are some genuinely funny and good parts in this book, but I wasn't willing to read through the muck to get to them.
Clearly, I'm not the intended target audience.
