"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour."
While Jeff looks for a job, we are on a financial detour. The detour is not without huge potholes, which must be carefully avoided through prayer, optimism, and plain old hangin' on.
But the scenery- in this case, finding ways to entertain, feed, and clothe your family on a non-existent budget - is fun, exciting and sometimes even beautiful. We never would have seen it had we stuck to the main road.
Kids at the Pumpkin Patch (free when you don't buy the pumpkins, which we didn't)
Touring the Utah State Capital (free when you don't buy anything at the gift shop, which we didn't)
Spending time with Grandpa Boyce (free plus benefits such as Chick-Fil-A and IHOP meals)
Taking a Tour of Sweet's Candy Factory (free if you don't buy anything at the candy shop at the end of the tour, which we absolutely did :)
The beautiful Oquirrh Mountain Temple, where Grandpa took pictures and we remembered going through for the Open House. It was closed; Caleb prayed that night that the Open Mountain temple wouldn't be locked the next time we went. The blessings of eternal life in the temple - free to all who wish to partake - are of infinite worth.
Carl Sandburg said it well: Money buys everything except love, personality,
freedom, immortality, silence, peace.
We don't have money, but we have everything.
Here's to Detours - and Amazing Scenery.

What a great time of year to enjoy the beautiful earth of our Father in Heaven! I think that a lot of us are cutting back just to be wise at this time of the economy. Thank you for sharing all those great ideas!
YEAH for free and YEAH for being truly happy! Miss you guys.
Good for you for finding all the good in a challenging situation. I'm sorry to hear your learning center job didn't work out like you had hoped, and we'll keep you in our prayers as Jeff looks for a new job. You sound so good and positive about learning from the challenges, and I'm sure you will be blessed for your good attitude! Miss you.
