Moving on, moving up: Caleb's Kindergarten Graduation

My baby graduated from Kindergarten last week.

Caleb is an absolute gift to our family -- we live and breathe his awesomeness.  He had a great year in kindergarten at DKH, a local private preschool/kindergarten.  I sacrificed a lot (including lots of time, since I worked there to help pay for his tuition) so that he could attend Kindergarten there, & it was definitely the best decision for Caleb.  He thrived in an environment of a small class size, personalized instruction and excellent learning experiences.  I can't say enough about how amazing their Kindergarten program is.

Caleb's graduation was bittersweet, but his past school year has been even more so.  As the year progressed, some concerns that I have had about him for the last few years have been confirmed.  I had been waiting to see if his issues were simply ones of maturity which he would grow out of or if there is something more.

My heart has broken several times in the last few months as I've recognized and gradually accepted the fact that it is something more. I am in the process of having him evaluated so that he can enter the 1st grade with all of the tools both he and his teachers will need for Caleb to succeed.

There are nights when I cry myself to sleep at night, mourning the loss of initial expectations, trying to wrap my head around new ones.

But then I wake up in the morning, splash cold water on my swollen eyes, dust off my boots and get to work.

Because I'm his mom.  It's my job.  And I love this little guy.
