The Uninvited Guests by Sadie JonesMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
I heard a rave review of this book on NPR so decided it would be worth buying, even though it's only available in hardback.
Sadie Jones is somewhat of a master wordsmith -- there were times when I literally sat in awe of the words and phrases she uses in the book to describe, to convey emotions, to tell the story.
However, I can't say the same about the plot. It was intriguing, surprising at times and occasionally brilliant. She does say that she went out on a limb with this plot (this is her third book). I'm not sure that limb is entirely to my liking, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
Lesson learned: don't buy hardback books entirely on the recommendation of NPR book reviewers.
I'll look for Sadie Jones' other two books in the library, but I don't think I'll buy them.
But if any of you want a fun, different kind of summer read, you don't have to buy it or find it at the library -- you can borrow it from me!!
